The First Day Before

The header on this blog says it all - I am finding most of my journey is not about what's around the bend but what's after what's around the bend. Much of the journey with Christ feels like the day before Christmas Eve to put it another way.

This isn't bad or negative at all. But it is true, at least for me. I know that God is working for my good and the good of others and the good of all (Romans 8:28). But I can't quite see it yet, even in my own life.

I can see these things behind me. The road climbs gently as it turns so I can see back to the previous turns through which God has brought me to this place. But I can't see up and around the bends in the road before me. As it should be since I would try to navigate according to my own ideas of where the road leads or should lead and end up falling off a cliff! I have fallen off a few in my journey, some recently in fact, so I know that staying on this road matters.

On this Christmas Day I celebrate that the turnings and twists of God's purposes came to a point of clarity on that long ago night. May the Light that came into the world illumine the path before me and us all in the new year that will soon begin.
